What to Look for in a Lawn Care Provider

Hey guys! It’s almost mowing season – have you figured out who will be keeping your lawn looking good this summer?

Whether you need basic lawn care services, like mowing, trimming or edging … or more advanced lawn care services, such as tree removal, it’s worth spending some time vetting your candidates.

Cause … You may not really pay attention if you’ve got a good lawn care provider, but you sure WILL notice if you’ve got a bad one.

So for that reason, we put together a few questions you can ask yourself to make sure you end up hiring a lawn care provider that you LOVE (even … if you don’t actually ever notice them).

And of course, if you ARE looking for someone to take care of your lawn (and you’re located in Harrison or Floyd County or surrounding areas), I know a guy you should talk to.

He’s pretty good. Real reliable. Has lots of happy lawn care clients.

It’s me. You should talk to me. Call me at 812-734-5430 and I’ll send you a free quote. (Ooh free yay!)

Moving on! Ask me (or your provider of choice) these questions to figure out if they’re the lawn care provider of your dreams.

1.  Do they have the proper equipment AND do they take care of it?

This one is a no-brainer, but still worth mentioning. If you want a great-looking lawn, you need to use great equipment.

Now I’m not suggesting that you have to have the most expensive tools out there (although a high-quality lawn care provider will see the value of investing in their tools), but I am suggesting that equipment should be well-maintained and in good working order.

Blades should be changed frequently, trimmings should be cleaned off equipment after use, and oil should also be changed at regular intervals.

A lawnmower that’s only getting used once a week needs to have its blades sharpened or changed 1-2 times a mowing season.

Someone who mows lawn professionally, however, should be changing or sharpening their blades once every 2 or so days.

Here’s a quick tip: If you’re in the process of interviewing new lawn care providers, you can ask them how many mowing hours they go before changing or sharpening their blades. You’ll want to go with someone who answers 10 hours or less.

2.  Are they consistent and reliable?

This is a big one to look out for. You wouldn’t believe how many of my clients ended up coming to D.B. Lawn Service because their previous lawn care provider just up and ghosted them one day.

No explanation, no call letting them know they would need to find someone else to mow their lawn … Just … poof. Bye.

Imagine that happening in the middle of June … when all the lawn care providers are all booked up … and your grass is growing like crazy and hasn’t been cut for 2 weeks … Yikes. The Homeowner’s Association is *not* going to be pleased.

Do yourself a favor and find a provider who won’t leave you high and dry.

Another tip:  Pay attention to online reviews when you’re looking for a lawn care provider. Check out their Facebook if they have one, or you can even ask them for references.

And … don’t worry about coming off as rude if you do want to ask! A solid lawn care provider will be happy to provide references to you.

Don’t forget to: ask plenty of questions when you do reach out to those references. You can ask how long they’ve been working together, and about their reliability, customer service, and the quality of their work.

The lawn care industry is one where you often find the best deal and service through word-of-mouth referrals. If someone else is happy with this provider, chances are you will be, too.

3.  How’s their customer service?

Bad customer service is … maybe one of the worst things ever?

Seriously. I’d almost rather stab myself in the eyeball (Dakota feel free to suggest something you’d actually say here) than have to deal with a company who doesn’t know how to treat its customers properly.

If I call you, answer me! I’m trying to give you my money. Don’t make it hard for me to do that.

If you performed a service for me, make sure you do a dang good job! If I wanted it to look like an amateur did it, I wouldn’t have hired a professional.

(Sidenote: I obviously hate bad customer service and am committed to never putting you in those situations.)

Ok, moving on from my rant. For this one you obviously can’t really ask the lawn care provider any questions about their own customer service, so you just need to use your eyes and ears.

For example, Is it easy to get in touch with them? Do they quickly and hassle-free provide you with a quote? Do they respond quickly and in a timely manner to your questions and concerns?

Again, you just have to keep your eyes and ears out on this one. Also check reviews. This is another case where customer reviews are going to be really helpful.

And if you’re in Southern Indiana and in need of a lawn care provider who has great customer service, is dependable, and has all the tools necessary to get the job done, you know who to call!  (Click that button below to get in touch with Dakota today!)
